Obituary of Edward Andrew Matthews Sr.

Edward Andrew Matthews Sr. passed away at his home in Hollister, CA on November 4, 2020 due to a lengthy illness. “Big Ed” was born on December 28, 1964 in Hollister and was raised on Southside Rd. His Father was a Farmer and his Mother was a homemaker. He is survived by his wife Shannan Matthews, his daughter Malorie Stevens, his son Eddie Matthews Jr. and his son Tucker Matthews along with his grandchildren Lilly, Axle, Scotty, Sleyton and Sutton. Ed also leaves behind his sisters, Linda and Roberta, in addition to several other loving family members. Ed was a talented equipment operator for most of his life. He liked and understood “dirt”. He was a kind, gentle, fun-loving, uncomplicated and funny man that loved to tell a good joke and build a great fire. He loved the San Benito River and could make a mean BBQ. One of his favorite things to do was to take a country cruise with a cup of coffee from the gas station in a pick-up or Jeep with a clean hood, shiny wheels and good music. Ed had many extra names – Special Ed, Physical Ed, Eduardo, Mr. Ed and more and he laughed at all of them! He loved anything with a motor, long hill climbs, clean sand dunes and large equipment. Ed had an incredible work ethic and a very strong sense of right and wrong – he would stop and help anyone on the side of the road. He loved his family and his friends and never asked for very much in his life. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Panoche Inn this Saturday, November 14th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. (If possible, please bring a side dish or dessert). A future date for a formal memorial will be announced.
