Bob was a funny, smart, great guy. Before he left San Jose (where I also live), I would stop by his house on Cottle Ave in San Jose and we would rap for several hours at a time. After he moved we exchanged a few emails, but I never made it out to his new place in Hollister.
I met Bob when I was about 14 in 1978, I think. He was my friend Dave's "Uncle Bob" and we used to jam together up at Dave's stepmother Michelle's house in Scott's Valley, CA when we were but teenagers. Bob would hall us up there with his amp and Dave's drums in his Pinto Station wagon and I would play Michelle's baby grand piano. I still have those old cassettes that I have transferred into MP3 files. We would often go to a Bob's Big Boy after jamming and drink coffee and talk about music for hours and hours.
I don't participate in any social media. I had sent several unanswered texts and left a message or two on Bob's voicemail but received no replies over the last 6 or 8 months but thought nothing of it. However, recently, after getting an email I sent to Bob bounced back to me, I asked my wife to check Bob's Facebook account which read, "Remembering" Bob Durrazo.
I searched for any information on the Hollister City site and found the notice for his passing on this site. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I really wish I had made the time to drive out to Hollister to see Bob. To hear of his unexpected passing all the way back in March was heartbreaking.
Goodbye, Bob. You are loved. I will miss you. I'm now going to listen to our 1978 cassette recorded Scott's Valley live jam of your tune "My Good Friend". Love you buddy.
