Obituary of Jan Jaap vanErven
Jan J. vanErven, aged 76, passed away on September 24, 2024, in Hollister, California. Born in Indonesia on June 5, 1948, Jan immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands in 1959, settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports, particularly basketball and Soccer.
Jan attended Manzano High School in Albuquerque and later pursued higher education, earning Bachelor of Political Science from San Jose State University after initial studies at Stanford. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to San Benito Foods, where his commitment and hard work were well recognized. Beyond his professional life, Jan was deeply interested in world news, politics, horse racing, and the stock market, often engaging in lengthy discussions with his family on these topics. His love for reading further enriched his knowledge and conversations.
Jan is survived by his sisters, Anne vanErven and Marjon Stewart of Albuquerque, NM; Sue and Julius Thompson of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Kees and Patti-Jo vanErven of Southaven, MS; nieces, Brandy Thompson, Mieke vanErven, and Marieke vanErven; and nephews, Sean and Justin Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Wilhelmina vanErven.
A memorial service for Jan will be held at a later date. His life was marked by his profound love for his family, his intellectual pursuits, and his enduring friendships. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
