Obituary of Mary A Uccello

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Uccello, 81, of Hollister, California announces that Mary peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 18, 2024. She was born on November 1, 1942, to Luigi Grimaldi and Teresa Calendino in Piane Crati, Italy. Mary grew up in Piane Crati, Italy with her four siblings and parents. As a young woman, at the age of 17, she bravely left her country and family to pursue a life in America. She was married to Albert Uccello who was also from Piane Crati, Italy. They raised two daughters and made a beautiful life for themselves surrounded by family and friends carrying out Italian traditions. Mary was very shy, loving, caring, and religious. However, she was also very fierce when it came to the role of home maker and taking care of those she loved. She was a caretaker by nature, and cared for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family. She was an excellent cook and baker and shared all of her traditional cookies and meals with family and friends in her circle. Love was one of the ingredients that she added to every meal she cooked, that is why her recipes cannot be replicated. Her love was the secret ingredient. She was very dedicated to her family, culture and religion. She truly had a heart of gold! Mary is survived by her two daughters (Lisa and Julie), son in-law (Gilbert), three grandchildren (Mary, Brenda, Gryffen), five great grandchildren (Ryen, Arianna, Jovanni, Racey, Rayna), sister (Rosetta) and brother (Sergio). The funeral service will be held on September 27, 2024. If you would like to join us in honoring Mary a viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Grunnagle Funeral Home followed by a mass at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 and burial at Calvary-Sacred Heart Cemetery. We invite all who knew Mary to join us in celebrating her life. Donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
