Obituary of Robert Donald McFadden
Robert “Don” Donald McFadden, 78, of Hollister, CA, passed away on September 17, 2022, after his battle with cancer.
Don was born on November 22, 1943, to JD and Wilma McFadden in Reedley, California. Shortly after his birth, the family moved back to Dyersburg, Tennessee. His father, JD, passed away when Don was 4 years old. At the age of 12, his mother and stepfather moved to Salinas, California where he finished school, graduating from Salinas High School in 1961.
After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Teddie Boyd in May of 1961 and just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Shortly after marrying, they settled in Hollister, California where they raised their family.
In 1965, Don joined the Hollister Police Department where he served his community until 1971. Along with his service, Don was also proud of his marksmanship, having won multiple sharp-shooting awards during this time. Don left the Hollister Police Department in 1971 to go into the trucking business with his father-in-law, Cecil Boyd. Soon after, Don bought into the business and later bought his father-in-law out when Cecil retired. Don continued to run and grow the business as McFadden Trucking until he retired in 2016.
Don loved his family and was most happy when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. For the past 20 years, when Don wasn't working, he could be found at New Melones Lake sitting on the back of his houseboat with his wife, Teddie, or racing around the lake on his jet ski or boat. His favorite time at the houseboat was when he could have his entire family there with him. Don enjoyed bowling and throughout the years could be found one to three nights a week at Hollister Lanes bowling in various leagues. He also bowled in tournaments that took him across the state and into Nevada.
Don loved the outdoors and spent much of his “spare” time raising hay. If not tending to the hay, he could be found target practicing with friends and family on the shooting range he set up at the back of his property. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and water skiing but ultimately, he would rather race across the water in his boat or jet ski than sit on top of it waiting for a fish to bite.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, JD and Wilma McFadden, and three brothers Jimmy Owsley, Royce McFadden, and Larry McFadden. He was also preceded in death by his nephew Britt McFadden. He is survived by the love of his life, Teddie; son, Rob McFadden; daughter, Kelley (Luis) Urbina; granddaughters, Jordan (Nikolas) Bayer and Sara Hernandez; brother Jerry McFadden; Aunt Joyce (McFadden) Taylor and other family who loved him dearly including numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Institute (cancerresearch.org) or a charity close to your heart.
